Deborah Ayo Edwards is a former veteran broadcast journalist

public speaker, social change performance artist and activist who has worked to empower women around the issue of sexual violence for nearly 25 years. As a journalist, she has worked in 3 of the top ten media markets—Detroit, Philadelphia and New York. While working for Essence Television she was one of the first broadcasters to produce a national television feature on Oprah Winfrey as she debuted her national talk show in 1986. Deborah Ayo has worked with the Glide Memorial Church Sexual Assault Peer Support Group and participated in the Generation Five Community Response Project. Additionally, she worked with the Medea Project: Theater for Incarcerated Women. As a social change performance artist she wrote and starred in her acclaimed and spiritually uplifting one woman play “From Whores To Matriarchs: Black Women “Survivors On The Edge” about the tenacity and strength of sister survivors everywhere. She holds degrees in Broadcasting and Cinematic Arts, Psychology and Theater from Central Michigan University.
